Twilio Dialers for Chrome, Compared

You need a few teammates making calls, international ones included, on your Twilio account. They don't need the CRM, and you don't want to pay for CRM seats just so they can dial. A Chrome softphone extension does the job for a few dollars per user instead. We compared the 2 extensions and one hosted alternative suggested in an r/twilio thread asking exactly this.

The Problem: Calling Shouldn't Need a CRM Seat

The thread starts with a familiar setup. A team runs calls on Twilio through a CRM, and now a few more people need to place calls, many of them international. They'll never open the CRM. Buying each of them a CRM license just to get a dial pad is the expensive way to solve it.

The cheaper route is a Chrome extension that talks to Twilio directly. Each agent gets a dial pad in the browser, the calls bill to your Twilio account at Twilio's own rates, and nobody needs a CRM login. The catch is choosing one: the two Chrome Web Store options differ a lot in price, maturity and features, and one commenter found both too heavy for daily use.

Quick Comparison

Option Type Rating Users Pricing CRM Sync
Twilio Auto Dialer & Softphone Chrome extension 4.8 (21 ratings) 884 Freemium: 100 calls included for new users, then in-app purchase. No mandatory subscription. Zoho CRM, GoHighLevel, custom webhooks
Auto Dialer for Twilio Platform Chrome extension 3.6 (53 ratings) 3,000 Free trial with full features (the listing says both 14 and 15 days), then $4.99/month. Twilio usage is extra. Salesforce, Zoho, Insightly, HubSpot, Zendesk; others through a custom script
2Chat Phone System Hosted phone system Not a Chrome Web Store listing — See 2Chat's own pricing page Not covered in the thread

Ratings, user counts and prices are taken from each listing as of October 5, 2026. Twilio's per-minute and per-SMS charges apply on top of every option.

Twilio Auto Dialer & Softphone

The newer, freemium option

Chrome extension · By Chrome Web Store (Featured)

The extension the thread's original poster found first. It turns Chrome into a softphone on your own Twilio account: calls in and out, SMS, click-to-call, an auto dialer and a call log, with no PBX or server to set up.

What it does

  • Outbound and inbound calls in Chrome over WebRTC, with mute, hold and live call duration
  • Click-to-call on phone numbers found on any website
  • Auto dialer and power dialer that work through a contact list
  • Send and receive SMS, with conversation history, delivery status and quick replies
  • Searchable call and SMS logs
  • Connects with your Twilio Account SID and Auth Token, stored locally in Chrome; the listing says there's no backend server and no analytics

Watch out for

  • Small install base so far (884 users, 21 ratings), so there's less of a track record to go on
  • A thread commenter said this extension is over 1 MB and that the size caused performance problems for their client
  • Every agent pastes the account's Auth Token into their own browser, so plan who gets which credentials

Best for

Small teams who want to try browser calling on Twilio without committing to a subscription first.

Auto Dialer for Twilio Platform

The established option

Chrome extension · By Nethram LLC

The longer-running choice, from the team behind the Twiliod dialer. It has the deeper call-center feature list: voicemail drop, call transfer, conference and screen-pops that open the caller's CRM record.

What it does

  • Three modes: a plain dialer, click-to-dial on numbers highlighted in any web page, and CRM integration
  • Screen-pop that opens the lead's CRM page when a call comes in
  • Auto dialing through a list of numbers, one after the other
  • SMS with autocomplete, plus click-to-SMS
  • Voicemail on no answer, voicemail drop on outbound calls, call forwarding, transfer and conference
  • Buy Twilio numbers for many countries from inside the extension; recent log of the last 20 calls

Watch out for

  • Needs a paid (not trial) Twilio account with at least one number, plus a Chrome sign-in
  • Lower rating (3.6) than the newer extension, though over a bigger user base
  • A thread commenter said this extension is also over 1 MB, with the same performance problems
  • Screen-pops need a small script or API URL set up per CRM

Best for

Teams who want voicemail drop, transfers and CRM screen-pops, and don't mind $4.99 per user per month.

2Chat Phone System

Not an extension: keep your Twilio numbers

Hosted phone system · By 2Chat

Suggested in the thread as a way around the extension question entirely. You import your existing Twilio numbers into 2Chat as verified caller IDs, then call through them from 2Chat. The numbers stay on your Twilio account; 2Chat doesn't host them.

What it does

  • Use your Twilio numbers as verified caller IDs, so recipients see the numbers they already know
  • Numbers aren't ported or re-hosted; 2Chat's import guide walks through adding them
  • A full phone system, not a browser add-on, so nothing runs inside each agent's Chrome

Watch out for

  • It's another platform to sign agents into and pay for, which is close to the CRM-seat problem the thread started with
  • Call pricing runs through 2Chat rather than straight at your Twilio rates; check before moving international volume

Best for

Teams who'd rather manage agents in one hosted tool than install an extension on every machine.

From Makeinfo

Makeinfo Twilio Auto Dialer

The most useful comment in the thread wasn't a recommendation. It was a complaint: both extensions are over 1 MB, and that slowed things down for the commenter's client enough that they built their own lightweight dialer instead.

We build a Twilio auto dialer for Chrome around that complaint. It's a lightweight extension that gives your team a dial pad on your own Twilio account, without a CRM seat for every caller. Tell us about your team and the countries you call, and we'll tell you whether it fits.

Which One Should You Pick?

  • You want to try it this week for free: Twilio Auto Dialer & Softphone. 100 calls are included, so you can test international dialing before paying anything.
  • You need voicemail drop, transfers or CRM screen-pops: Auto Dialer for Twilio Platform. It has the longer feature list and the bigger user base, for $4.99 a user per month.
  • You'd rather not install anything on agents' machines: 2Chat, with your Twilio numbers imported as caller IDs.
  • Speed matters more than features: talk to us about a lightweight dialer.

Whichever you choose, enable the destination countries under Voice Geographic Permissions in your Twilio Console first. International calls fail without it, and it's easy to mistake that for a dialer bug.

Texting from a spreadsheet instead? TwilioBox sends SMS to a list in Google Sheets through your Twilio account, for reminders and campaigns. For more browser tools sales teams use, see Chrome Extensions for Sales.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my team make Twilio calls without a CRM license? ▾
Yes. That was exactly the problem in the r/twilio thread. A Chrome softphone extension connects straight to your Twilio account, so an agent only needs Chrome and the Twilio credentials or number you give them. CRM sync is optional in both extensions, not a requirement.
Why do international calls fail even though the dialer works? ▾
Twilio blocks most international destinations by default. Before your team dials abroad, turn on the countries you need under Voice Geographic Permissions in the Twilio Console. That setting lives on the Twilio account, so it applies whichever dialer you pick.
What does calling through one of these extensions cost? ▾
Two bills. Twilio charges its normal pay-as-you-go per-minute rates for every call and SMS, whichever extension you use. On top of that, Twilio Auto Dialer & Softphone is freemium (100 calls included for new users, then in-app purchases) and Auto Dialer for Twilio Platform is $4.99 a month after its free trial.
Does extension size really matter? ▾
It can. A commenter in the thread said both extensions are over 1 MB and that this caused performance problems for their client, so they built a lightweight alternative instead. If agents keep a softphone open all day next to a CRM and a dozen tabs, a heavy extension is felt.
Are my Twilio credentials safe in a Chrome extension? ▾
Both extensions ask for your Twilio Account SID and Auth Token. Twilio Auto Dialer & Softphone says it stores them locally in Chrome with no backend server. Either way, the Auth Token gives full access to your Twilio account, so only give it to people you'd trust with the account, and rotate it when someone leaves.
