How to Turn Industry News into a Daily B2B Lead Feed with RSS and AI

News events create natural outreach triggers — expansions, new hires, product launches, funding closes. An AI-powered RSS monitoring system captures these triggers automatically and surfaces enriched leads before your competitors see the same article.

Every morning, industry publications publish articles about companies in your addressable market. Companies announcing expansions, leaders announcing new roles, startups launching new products, incumbents announcing partnerships.

Most of these articles don’t make it into your lead generation workflow. You might read TechCrunch, but you’re not systematically extracting leads from it. You certainly aren’t reading the 20 industry trade publications relevant to your vertical.

An RSS + AI monitoring system does.

Why News Events Are High-Quality Outreach Triggers

Cold outreach struggles because it has no context. “I saw your company and thought we might work together” is weak. News-triggered outreach has context built in.

When you reach out referencing a specific event — a company expanding to a new market, a new VP joining a target account, a product launch announcement — you’re not cold. You’re informed. The event is the reason for the outreach.

This changes the dynamic from “why are you contacting me?” to “okay, that’s timely.”

The highest-value triggers:

Event TypeWhy It’s a Trigger
Funding announcementFresh budget, new tooling evaluation
New executive hireNew leader evaluates current stack
Market expansion announcementNeed for regional tooling, headcount, services
Product launchNeed for marketing, PR, legal, sales enablement
Partnership announcementCompetitor move or integration opportunity
Award or recognitionWarm opener, momentum signal
Regulatory changeCompliance tooling evaluation

Setting Up an RSS Monitoring System

Step 1: Identify your RSS sources

Start with sources that publish about your ICP frequently:

  • Industry trade publications (specific to your vertical)
  • Google News alerts for your category keywords
  • TechCrunch, VentureBeat, Business Insider for tech/startup triggers
  • PR Newswire and GlobeNewsWire for press releases
  • LinkedIn company page RSS feeds for target accounts

Most news sites publish RSS feeds — the URL is typically /feed or /rss. Google News lets you create custom RSS feeds for any search query.

Step 2: Define relevance criteria

Not all articles trigger outreach. Write AI scoring criteria in plain language:

“Score as HIGH RELEVANCE if the article:

  • Mentions a company hiring a new executive (VP, C-Suite, or department head)
  • Announces a company expansion (new market, new office, new product line)
  • Reports funding for a company in [your verticals]
  • Mentions a company transitioning from [old category] to [new category]

Score as LOW RELEVANCE if the article:

  • Is general industry analysis without a specific company announcement
  • Mentions companies only tangentially
  • Is about events outside [your target geography/verticals]”

Step 3: AI Entity Extraction

For high-relevance articles, an AI agent extracts:

  • Company name(s) mentioned
  • Person(s) mentioned (name, title)
  • Event type (funding, hire, launch, expansion)
  • Relevant quote from the article
  • Article publish date and URL

Step 4: Contact Enrichment

Extracted companies and people are run through enrichment. Companies get domain + key contact roles enriched. Individuals get work email and phone enriched if a high-confidence profile match exists.

Step 5: Delivery

Enriched leads with trigger context appear in a Google Sheet daily — name, company, event type, article URL, and enriched contact details.

Writing News-Triggered Outreach

The article provides the personalization hook. The outreach acknowledges the event and connects it to a relevant business need.

Expansion announcement:

“Saw [Company]‘s announcement this week about expanding into [new market] — congrats. Teams expanding into new regions often hit [specific operational challenge your product addresses] within the first 90 days. Curious if that’s already on your radar.”

New VP hire:

“[Name], congrats on the new role at [Company]. As you’re evaluating [function] tooling in your first 90 days, we’ve helped several incoming [title]s at [similar companies] get [specific outcome]. Worth a 20-minute call?”

Product launch:

“Congrats on [Product] launching this week. As you scale adoption, [specific challenge] often becomes a bottleneck — we’ve built specifically to address that for [similar companies]. Have 20 minutes to see how it works?”

The common structure: acknowledge the specific event → connect to a specific challenge that event creates → offer specific value → CTA.

Prioritizing Which Leads to Act On First

Not every news-triggered lead warrants immediate attention. A scoring rubric:

Priority 1 (act within 24 hours):

  • Company raised funding in the last 7 days
  • New VP hired at a named account in your target list
  • Direct competitor customer announced switching

Priority 2 (act within 7 days):

  • Market expansion announcement
  • Product launch at an ICP-matching company
  • Award or recognition at a target account

Priority 3 (monitor, act within 30 days):

  • General company growth signals (headcount increase)
  • Partnership announcements at adjacent companies
  • Industry trend articles mentioning your category

The 24-hour leads go to your fastest-moving SDRs or AEs. Lower-priority leads get queued in sequences where timing is less critical.

Tracking What Works Over Time

After 60 days of running news-triggered outreach, you’ll have enough data to analyze:

  • Which event types produce the highest reply rates?
  • Which publication sources produce the best-quality leads?
  • Which outreach openers work best for each event type?

This turns your news monitoring system from a lead source into a learning system. The event types that don’t produce replies get deprioritized; the ones that do get more monitoring attention.
